Difference between fashion and style
“Fashion fades, style is eternal.” - Yves Saint Laurent
The quote is self-explanatory. Fashion is about keeping up with the trends that’s constantly changing, it’s like chasing a moving target. It’s being concerned with what’s out there to what you’re wearing.
Style is about expressing the best version of yourself. It’s putting together an image that conveys other people your identity, attitude and personality.
Fashion is also incredibly fast-paced, it takes our attention away from ourselves and we tend to easily get lost end up buying clothing we don’t actually like just because they are out there, while style is the relationship to the internal and connects to our most authentic self.
Quality over quantity
We do not buy nice clothes or accessories to protect us from dangers. We buy them to look good. When we look good, we tend to feel better about ourselves, we stand taller, smile more and act more confidently in general. When we act more confidently, we meet new friends and get new opportunities that shift our lives in new directions.
And we should view ‘fashion’ as investment and opt for higher quality goods made by people who are well treated and invested their talents back to their crafts.
So, to love and honour yourself, stop chasing fashion and experiment with style. As Oscar Wilde says "To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance".
Let your identity stay untouched.
